A FUTURE FOR
HACKMATACK PLAYHOUSE

Dear Hackmatack Community,

For 50 years, the rustic barn at Hackmatack Playhouse has been home to countless musicals, plays, and community memories. We are thankful for every person who took a seat in the theater and joined us for a show. When Hackmatack was founded in 1972 by Carleton Guptill, his dream was to create a space where the community could come together and enjoy live theater. This past summer we believed would be our final summer of live theater at Hackmatack. Alongside everyone, our family grieved the closing of a beloved part of our community. So it is with incredible excitement that we are sharing with you today a future for Hackmatack Playhouse.

Brothers Conor and Aram Guptill are honored to follow in the footsteps of their father Michael Guptill and grandfather Carleton Guptill to become the third generation of Guptills to welcome you to their 17th-century family farm to enjoy live theater and art. Conor, alongside his wife Shelby, has been raising bison and other animals at Hackmatack for the past decade and is an 11th-generation family farmer. Aram has been greeting folks to Hackmatack for years in the box office, overseeing the administrative elements of the theater. Both brothers are eager to share their enthusiasm for the arts and to continue providing theater, music, and education to the region.

Hackmatack has a bright future in its role of bringing live theater and arts to Southern Maine and the Seacoast NH region. We are so thankful for the amazing community that has formed around Hackmatack for the past half century, and appreciate the support that has allowed us to provide this space. The momentum of Hackmatack is launching into a future that further connects the theater with the land and community around us. Through our farm, we are committed to regenerative land practices and the sustainability of our environment, and through our theater, we are dedicated to community development through the arts. We look forward to welcoming you back to Hackmatack.

Sincerely,

Aram & Conor Guptill
